The Cay

by Gayle Cornelison
Adapted from the novel by Theodore Taylor

Directed by Amanda Delheimer

show description

Separated from his family by a German sea attack during World War II, eleven-year-old Phillip finds himself blind and stranded on a deserted island.
His only companion is an elderly West Indian named Timothy. Phillip’s mother has warned him about black natives, but he is forced to completely depend on Timothy in order to survive. As weeks—and then months—pass with no rescue, the boy grows strong under the tutelage of his unlikely mentor and discovers there is much more to Timothy than the color of his skin.

Learning Guide

Our Education Department produces a Learning Guide for all of our productions. This text is FULL of fun background information about the show, pre-show and post-show discussion questions, as well as art and language activities. While we primarily make it for our educators, we think parents should check it out as well. Click here to join the fun!
