Our Saturday workshops begin one hour before the performance and are recommended for children ages 8-12. Adults can join their smaller companions in a succession of interactive activities designed to prepare kids for the themes inherent in the show they are about to see. Attendees leave excited and equipped to engage with the world of the play.

Exploring Heritage through Drama and Art
Exploring Heritage through Drama and Art
A Pre-show Workshop
for Holes by Louis
Sachar
Through drama, discussion and art, workshop participants
will explore their diverse backgrounds and family inheritances. The warm-up
exercise allows students to begin thinking about their unique histories and
brainstorming about the lead character in the play, Holes. Participants then work
individually to create their own treasure chest, an art project that focuses on
how their family has influenced who they are. Participants then move into small
teams with the task of sharing their artwork with each other and summarizing
their inherited traits in a tableaux (frozen picture). Afterwards they share
their tableaux with the big group and the audience identifies and discusses the
inherited traits being represented. Participants leave with an experience that
prepares them to engage with their viewing of Holes, an adaptation of Louis Sachar’s
beloved novel.
Order your tickets for the Saturday workshop the same time you get your tickets to Holes! They can either be purchased on-line, or by calling our box office at 773-342-4141.
