Teacher Workshops

ASC’s Professional Development Workshops provide teachers with student-centered, arts-integrated activities to use in guiding students to a deeper understanding of the themes inspired by our productions. These activities connect our productions to various ISBE goals and standards and are immediately applicable in the classroom. CPDU credits are provided. These workshops are $15 and space is very limited. Please call in advance to register, or purchase your ticket on-line.

THE GIVER WORKSHOP

Dreams of Utopia
Exploring Society, Responsibility and Choice
Tuesday, March 20th, from 4:00-8:00pm
at Adventure Stage Chicago, 1012 North Noble Street

This workshop will use the themes from The Giver as a starting point for interactive art activities that will help students explore different societal structures and the communities they create. Many students probably study Utopian societies in the abstract, but rarely do we use that lens to consider real world societies and the choices involved for both the community and its citizens. This workshop will lead participants through hands-on activities that they can take back to their classrooms to help explore different cultures and take a closer look at our own. Teachers can adapt the activities from the workshop to suit any book, play, or movie they plan to use in their classroom.

Our Professional Development Workshops will provide CPDU credits and tools to help teachers prepare their students for a fieldtrip to see the show. The Workshop costs $15, which includes dinner and all materials. For more information, or to reserve tickets, click the "Purchase Tickets" button at the top of this page, or call 773.342.4141.

“I want to thank you for providing a wonderful workshop. I got a lot out of it and can not wait to use your strategies with my kids.”
