2006-2007 Neighborhood Bridges Residency Program
(formerly the vittum learning partnership)
Burr elementary school, 8th grade
Inquiry Question:"How can I develop skills that allow us to create theatrical pieces that explore civil rights?"
One of the major outcomes of this residency was to increase awareness and confidence in each student's artistic and learning abilities. Ms. Chandler's 8th grade class attended The Search for Odysseus by Charles Way, participated in workshops that develop mind, body, and voice, and devised five scenes that explore the history of segregation in the American education system.
"Positive Impressions"
“The performance certianly left a positive impression on the students about attending and appreciating live performances! They are also more likely to pursue the reading of plays and novels upon which plays are based. The entire experience was extremely worthwhile, leaving a lasting, motivating impact.”
